As the myriad regulations employers and employees are faced with expands and evolves, the importance of understanding them and how they can be managed in a cohesive manner is more important than ever. Disability managers need to be equipped to respond to questions, provide guidance as to how various benefit systems and regulations interact, and ultimately provide advice as to how the case management process should be carried out. As such, this module is designed to help you understand key concepts related to the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act (ADAAA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and why an integrated approach to disability and absence management makes sense. It will enable you to explain the current state of the ADAAA and FMLA regulations, and the types of protection they afford. It will help you identify strategies for establishing an integrated program and how leave management and accommodations are applied by employers. As a disability manager, it will prompt you to think about how you can support integrated programs, and particularly adhere to the requirements of ADAAA and FMLA at your organization.
